Here’s the world’s first photo model, or the first ever person to be photographed with a camera. Want to know how the person who was dubbed the first photo model looks like? The answer is in the photograph above. The University of Rochester gave an award for the making of this first photograph of a person to Louis Daguerre, the inventor of the daguerreotype process. The man was photographed when he was photographing the Boulevard du Temple Street in Paris in 1838.
Louis Daguerre succeeded in capturing a person’s image and his shoe shiner while they were on a street corner. So you think the photograph looks too deserted? Well yes, that was to be expected because Daguerre’s photograph-recording process was done by exposing a chemically treated metal plate for a few minutes. If a person or an object of the photo was moving during the recording process, then they will not appear on the resulting photograph of this daguerreotype technique.
But since the people in the photograph were stationery during the process, their profiles were forever recorded in the metal plate. That is why the anonymous Parisian should be dubbed with the honor of the first photo model in the world.
